AN American was shot to death by a drunk man at a restobar in Barangay 5, Silay City, Negros Occidental Tuesday night, May 15.

Killed was Eric Hendrickson, 57, of Iowa, United States, and temporarily residing at Saint Francis Subdivision, Barangay 4, Silay City.

He is living with his child in a rented house while his wife was abroad.

Superintendent Noel Polines, city police chief, said Hendrickson arrived at the bar when suspect Gilbert Apellido, 40, of Barangay Concepcion, Talisay City, who was severely drunk allegedly bullied him after the foreigner only bought one bottle of liquor.

The foreigner did not mind him at first but Apellido kept on bullying him that caused them a misunderstanding.

Hendrickson slightly pushed Apellido and told the latter to "stay away from him."

It prompted the suspect to return to his table, where his nephew Neil Brian Corseno, 18, of Barangay Mambulac, Silay City, was sitting and took his firearm.

Apellido then went to the foreigner who was drinking alone and allegedly fired at him several times at close range. The victim succumbed to head injuries.

Apellido then dragged his nephew to escape but later, police intercepted them at Lopez Jaena Street in Barangay 5.

Police recovered from the scene Apellido's .38 caliber revolver loaded with a dodged bullet and five fired bullets.

He said both suspects are detained at Silay City Police Station for the filing of murder charges in relation to violation of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban.

Polines also said that it is up to the court to determine Corseno's participation in the crime.
