THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution requesting the City Legal Office-Law Enforcement Team, the City Administrators Office, and City Mayor's Office-Sectoral Concerns to strictly monitor and regulate all vendors peddling along major streets and sidewalks during these holiday season.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Bartolome Orola, was approved during the regular session on Wednesday, December 19.

Orola, chairperson of the City Council committee on markets, said the coming holidays would mean an increase in the number of vendors peddling their wares along major streets and markets including those who are selling fruits along sidewalks.

"The City needs to organize our public markets and kiosks alongside roads, and maintain order in its operation to make our markets responsive and effective instrument of public service to our constituents," he said.

He added there is also a need to advise all vendors to dispose old and ratty tarpaulins, dirty kiosk or stall covering and change these covers to be more presentable to the public.

Orola noted that in line with the city's program on Solid Waste Management, strict compliance of cleanliness in their respective areas, as well as proper waste disposal of any litter or refuse should also be observed.

Orola said that to maintain public order and safety, and to prevent any road obstructions and traffic congestion, there is a need to monitor and regulate vendors, and make sure that they are in the areas designated for them and they are not encroaching on the roads and other prohibited areas. (MAP)
