BACOLOD City Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya said Tuesday, November 12, that the construction of center islands from Barangays Tangub to Sum-ag, Bacolod City is expected to be completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) by the first quarter of 2020.

Gasataya said DPWH has started the construction of traffic island along Araneta Street in Barangay Tangub going to Barangay Sum-ag in October.

“We requested the DPWH to put up center islands in these areas along Araneta Highway to serve as a pedestrian barrier for the purpose of reducing vehicular accidents that could result to the death of pedestrians, especially residents living in the area,” he said.

He added several persons already died in the area due to traffic accidents making it a killer highway.

It’s part of the DPWH’s construction to put up street lights and plants in the center islands.

“We will improve these areas for the safety of our people here Bacolod,” Gasataya said.

Aside from the center islands, he said they already started upgrading the city’s streetlights by installing solar-powered light emitting diode (LED) streetlights from the areas of Barangays Granada and Banago, and Circumferential Road going to Murcia. (MAP)
