BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia has ordered the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) to survey and assess all the areas in the city affected by flash floods on Tuesday, September 29, 2020.

Leonardia said in a statement Wednesday that he instructed the DSSD to survey and assess all the areas in the city affected by flash floods caused by the heavy downpours in the mountainous areas that cascaded to the barangays.

The mayor also ordered the DSSD to provide immediate food assistance and determine what other forms of aid can be provided to the affected families.

On Tuesday afternoon, a 59-year-old man and a 19-year-old teenager were swept away by floodwaters in the rivers in Barangays Mansilingan and Vista Alegre.

The dead body of the 59-year-old man was already found Wednesday along the shoreline off Barangay Singcang-Airport while the teenager is still missing.

Executive Assistant Jose Maria Vargas, cluster head for Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, said the waters arose in some barangays including Barangays Mansilingan, Taculing, Alijis and Barangay 40 because of flash floods in the mountains.

He said several families were evacuated and temporarily housed in barangay gymnasiums.

The floods subsided around 5 p.m., prompting affected residents to return to their respective homes.
