Ex-drug surrenderer shot dead

 Adrian P. Nemes III

TWO gunshot wounds in his chest and right shoulder claimed the life of a former drug surrenderer in Cauayan town, Negros Occidental Tuesday, May 10.

Cauayan town police chief Major Roberto Indiape identified the victim as Raymund Bolneo, 42, of the town’s Barangay Bulata.

The suspect, whom a witness identified as Jessie John Zamora of Kabankalan City, evaded arrest, Indiape said, adding that the shooting could be drug-related.

Investigation showed that Bolneo was with three other persons, whose name was not disclosed, when Zamora arrived on a tricycle past 8 p.m. and shot him at close range before fleeing.

Bolneo was rushed to the Cauayan District Hospital but he died upon arrival there.

An empty shell of a .45 caliber pistol was recovered from the crime scene.

Indiape said that Bolneo has a previous case for illegal firearms possession and was also linked in the shooting of a relative.

Zamora, on the other hand, is considered as a high value target individual being involved in illegal drug trade.

He said they are yet to establish whether the two have an existing misunderstanding over illegal drug trade which eventually led to the fatal shooting.
