BARANGAY Handumanan in Bacolod City will be the first village in the city that will be having a drug rehabilitation center.

Village chief Ricardo Danoy Sr., of Barangay Handumanan, said Friday, November 15, that they already started the construction of the drug rehabilitation center near their gymnasium.

He said some of their constituents were included in the “Oplan Tokhang” of the Philippine National Police (PNP), but after a month, they returned to their illegal activities.

“We have drug surrenderers here and we want to rehabilitate them for free,” he said.

Danoy noted their barangay allotted P300,000 for the construction of the rehabilitation center that will be managed by the barangay in coordination with the City Health Office.

The budget was taken from the 2019 peace and order budget of the barangay.

“This is our initiative to help our drug surrenderers. We want to rehabilitate them so they can start a new life, and we are the first barangay in Bacolod to have this facility,” Danoy said.

The drug rehabilitation center will only cater the residents of Barangay Handumanan and it’s expected to be completed next month or in January 2020.

Danoy also expressed his gratitude to all his barangay kagawads who supported this program.

The City Government of Bacolod is also waiting for the completion of the Drug Rehabilitation Center in Barangay Alijis.

The rehabilitation center has a total budget of P35 million from the city government and Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB).

The rehab center, which will have an administration building, male and female quarters, multi-purpose and mess building, and pavilion, will be constructed at the city-government owned lot at the City Agriculture Office Demo Farm.

It will cater to Bacolod drug surrenderers with severe substance use disorder. (MAP)
