THE PROVINCIAL Health Office (PHO) is set to give a briefing on dengue, rabies and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) to information officers in Negros Occidental at Nature’s Village Resort today, May 22.

Negros Association of Government Information Officers and Liaisons (NAGIOL) President Olive Seruelo said Provincial HIV Coordinator Josephine Nonato will give updates on the HIV situation in the province.

Health Education Officer-Designate Melina Sanogal will speak on dengue and Provincial Rabies Coordinator Marmolejo will speak on rabies.

From week one to 18 of this year, 1,023 dengue cases have been reported at the PHO. Ten deaths have been noted.

In 2017, there were nine rabies deaths and 18,910 bite cases.

The estimated number of persons living with HIV/Aids (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) in Negros Occidental is now more than 600 while Bacolod City has more than 300.

Seruelo said information officers have the opportunity to spread knowledge on the three health concerns helping medical educators increase awareness and prevent the rise of victims, thus saving lives.
