A WOMAN and her daughter drowned in a river in Barangay E. Lopez, Silay City, Negros Occidental Tuesday, December 18.

City police Chief Superintendent Noel Polines identified the fatalities as Malou Caloring, 34, and her 14-year-old daughter (name withheld), both residents of Bais City, Negros Oriental.

Polines said the victim's two daughters, the 14-year-old and two-year-old, fell to the river after the riverbank they were standing on collapsed.

The mother, who was washing some clothes nearby, came to the rescue of her two daughters.

She was able to save her two-year-old daughter, but drowned, along with her teenage daughter, due to the strong current.

It was raining when it happened, Polines said.

The mother was rushed to a hospital, where she was declared dead. Her teenage daughter was found floating in the river by her uncle after three hours.

Both were subjected to autopsy to determine the cause of their death.

Polines said Caloring, along with her two daughters, arrived in Silay City on Monday, December 17, to visit her parents.

They were supposed to return to Bais City before Christmas. (GYM)
