Murcia school gets pocket libraries

Sunnexdesk

THE Provincial Government-owned Mambukal Mountain Resort in Murcia town has donated three pocket libraries to Minoyan Elementary School on Tuesday, January 14, 2020.

The same pocket libraries can be found inside the resort, which is open to all visitors.

Resort manager Ellen Jalandoni, who was at the turnover rites, said the primary purpose of the pocket libraries is to encourage reading among students, as well as develop their interest to read books rather than playing with their electronic gadgets during their free time.

Jalandoni along with Board Member Agustin Ernesto Bascon, chairman of the committee on education of the Provincial Board, spearheaded the turnover ceremony.

Bascon said education is the best solution to poverty as he lauded the resort for the idea of putting up pocket libraries in the school.

The official also pledged to donate computer units to the school.

Luzviminda Dela Cruz, the school’s principal, thanked the Provincial Government for the books donated to them.

She said it will be very helpful to the students.

Negros Occidental Schools Division Superintendent Marsette Sabbaluca, for her part, said the donated pocket libraries is timely because the Department of Education plans to focus on improving the reading comprehension of the students this year.

She also reminded the students to take good care of the books donated to them. (PR)
