THE management of Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (Bredco) has rescheduled the inauguration of its new seaport terminal at the Reclamation Area in Bacolod City.

The inauguration of the “world-class” terminal was supposed to be on June 18 to coincide with the 80th year signing of the Bacolod Charter.

Bredco president John Alonte said the opening was rescheduled due to the ongoing installation of some equipment to ensure comfort and convenience of passengers.

The new seaport has started its soft operation earlier this month.

“We do not have a definite date for the inauguration, but we will announce it soon,” Alonte said.

The P360-million fully-airconditioned seaport terminal will have a free Wi-Fi, an x-ray machine and seats that can accommodate about a thousand people.

It will also feature a VIP room, prayer room, kids’ playroom, nursing room, and other facilities including those for persons with disability.

Alonte said that he hired a group of consultants when he assumed his post in November 2017 to study seaport operation and management to better serve foreign and local passengers.

With the seaport terminal’s development which started two or three years ago, the terminal fee will also increase, he added.

By virtue of City Ordinance 157 series of 1961, Bredco was given the authority to undertake the reclamation and dredging activities of the city’s foreshore land and the construction of port and harbor facilities.

The ordinance also gave the private real estate developer to manage and operate the port without demanding for a cost. (MAP)
