Over 12,000 Bacolodnons inoculated in a single day

Merlinda A. Pedrosa

A TOTAL of 12,016 Bacolodnons have been vaccinated against coronavirus disease in a single day done in malls, barangays, and establishments in Bacolod City on July 26.

Leonardia, in a statement, said the city made a record number of vaccinations in the city.

“12,016 is our biggest number in a single day done in malls, barangays, and establishments. That more and more are now willing to be inoculated is heartening,” he said.

However, he added that this development has also posed big challenges.

The mayor noted that there is also a surge of crowds in the vaccination centers as a consequence.

On Monday, hundreds of people waited in a long queue outside and inside the SM City Bacolod and Ayala Malls Capitol Central. Some of them expressed their disappointment and posted it on social media for alleged unorganized vaccination centers in said areas.

The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) also held an emergency meeting. They assessed the situation and decided to revert to the "no walk-in" policy.

“Thus, only registered and pre-arranged vaccinees will be accommodated meanwhile. We appeal for the understanding of all concerned as we will continue to exert all efforts to vaccinate as many as possible as the vaccines come,” Leonardia said.

EOC records showed from March 5 to July 22, 2021, EOC-Task Force and the Covid-19 Vaccination Council (CoVaC) already inoculated a total of 103, 925 individuals in Bacolod City.

Of the number, 29,720 persons already received their second doses of Covid-19 vaccines. (MAP)
