POLICEMEN in Salvador Benedicto town in Negros Occidental are waiting for the families of the four victims who died and seven others who were wounded in a bus accident in Barangay Igmaya-an Monday night, March 25, to press charges against the driver.

Captain Jerald Muya, town police chief, said they are still gathering the documents needed for the filing of charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and multiple physical injuries against Ceres Liner bus driver Jezer Rasonable, 47, of Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.

Investigation showed that the bus loaded with 10 passengers was on its way to Bacolod City from San Carlos City past 9 p.m. when the driver allegedly lost control over the vehicle, and hit a concrete barrier and then fell into a 30-foot ravine.

Five victims are still confined at Bacolod Adventist Medical Center while two others were transferred to Bacolod Queen of Mercy. They all sustained bruises and cuts.

Rasonable was also injured and is under hospital arrest.

He will be released from police custody if a case is not filed within the 36-hour reglementary period, Muya said.

Muya said there were some families who went to the police station for the filing of the complaints but they have yet to comply with the other requirements.

Meanwhile, Muya said the Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI) assured the victims’ families of medical and burial assistance.

Jade Marquez Seballos, legal and media relations manager of VTI, said they will also conduct a separate investigation into the incident.

If the driver is proven guilty of being reckless, he will be fired from work, she added. (GYM)
