Politics may be discussed after BSKE - Escalante

Teresa D. Ellera

THE provincial political scenario may be discussed after the October 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. said Tuesday, August 1.

"Now is not the time," he said.

Escalante said the United Negros Alliance (UneGa) will decide who to field as vice governor after the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections in October.

Escalante also said that although he is interested in going back to the province, he wants to focus right now on the programs and projects that he started in Cadiz until 2028.

The statement of Escalante answered rumors that he may run for vice governor of the province if Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer goes back as congressman of the fourth district, as his wife, 4th District Rep. Juliet Marie Ferrer, will already end her term in 2025.

Escalante will still have his last term as the local chief executive until the year 2028.

Under the merger of UneGa and Love Negros, it was agreed that Love-Negros would field the candidate for Governor while UneGa would field the common bet for Vice Governor.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson will also end his term in 2028.*
