A LOCALLY stranded individual (LSI) from Manila suffered a stroke while aboard a flight bound for Bacolod City on Tuesday, February 9, 2021.

Lawyer Rayfrando Diaz, Negros Occidental provincial administrator, on Thursday, February 11, 2021, said the LSI was a 71-year-old male resident of Barangay Handumanan, Bacolod City.

Diaz said the elderly man was aboard a Cebu Pacific Air flight to Bacolod-Silay Airport when he suffered a stroke while the aircraft was still in the air.

Upon arrival at the Bacolod-Silay Airport, Diaz said the patient was immediately rushed to the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital (TLJPH), as it was the closest hospital where he could receive treatment.

A few hours later, the LSI's family arrived at the TLJPH and agreed to transfer the patient to a private hospital in Bacolod City.

As the transfer was being made, the patient passed away, Diaz said.

Diaz added based on the CT scan results they received, the patient had 55-percent bleeding in his cranial cavity caused by the stroke.

The Provincial Government had requested a swab test for the LSI to determine whether the patient was infected with the coronavirus or not.
