A MAN who reportedly accidentally killed himself using his friend’s firearm near a public cemetery at Barangay Poblacion in Cauayan town, Negros Occidental at about 9 p.m. Sunday, December 4.

Major Gary Alan Resuma, Cauayan town police chief, identified the victim as Jeemo Redimo, 37, of the barangay’s Purok 5.

Resuma said Redimo borrowed the .38 caliber revolver of his friend Benjie Chavez, 28, of the barangays Purok 3 and used to play “Russian roulette,” wherein one puts a single bullet in a revolver, spins the cylinder, places the muzzle against his head or body, and pulls the trigger.

“Although it apparently appears to be an accidental firing, we will still subject the both of them to paraffin testing to erase doubts of foul play,” he told SunStar Bacolod.

If Chavez yields negative of gunpowder nitrate based on the paraffin, he is still not “off the hook” as he will be facing charges for illegal possession of firearms, Resuma stressed.

Investigation showed that after the incident, Chavez reportedly threw the gun to a drainage ditch while Redimo succumbed to a gunshot wound on the head and died on the spot.

Meanwhile, Rolando Jimenez, 59, of Sitio Cagay 5 at Barangay Langub in Escalante City, Negros Occidental was arrested at about 4 p.m. Sunday at his house for allegedly creating alarm and scandal while armed with improvised shotgun which he reportedly used to threat passersby.

An improvised shotgun with inserted magazine loaded with four live ammunition of a 12 gauge shotgun and another chamber load of the same caliber were seized from Jimenez during his arrest, the police said.
