Panelo unsure if Negros-Panay bridge is 'shelved'

PRESIDENTIAL Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said he is unsure if the Negros-Guimaras-Panay bridge was among the mega infrastructure projects that were ordered to be shelved.

Panelo said there were five bridge projects that have been shelved by the government.

He said Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia and Department of Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi have all pointed out that some of the infrastructure projects have problems, both in the financial and technical aspects.

"It appears that we are still incapable of building these bridges with a long span," Panelo said.

Pernia said the bridge projects connecting Sorsogon and Samar, as well as the bridge linking Leyte and Surigao, will not push through due to massive expenses and engineering problems.

Without these bridges, driving from Luzon to Mindanao will not be possible.

Panelo was in Bacolod City on Sunday, October 27, for the Masskara Celebration.
