THE 79th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army is assisting the different local government units in Northern Negros in its relief operation relative to the enhanced community quarantine in the whole province.

Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Alvaran, commander of the 79th IB, said they started providing assistance to the LGUs starting March 30 for the repacking, transportation and distribution of relief goods to families affected by the ECQ.

The move, he said, is in response to the implementation of Executive Order No. 20-20 series of 2020 issued by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson.

In Escalante City, a total of 117 sacks of relief goods were initially distributed to Barangays Buenavista and Japitan. The troops also helped in repacking of relief goods at Municipality of Toboso.

“Prioritizing the safety of every Negrense is our top priority. Rest assured that this unit will continue to extend its support to the local government unit’s move and provide the necessary assistance needed in order to help the vulnerable sectors affected by Covid-19 crisis.

“We encourage every citizen to do their part by observing and following the protocols at all times and stay indoors to prevent the spread of the virus”, Alvaran said.
