A TRUCK carrying vote counting machines (VCMs) to be used for the May 13 elections accidentally crashed in the town of Cauayan, Tuesday morning, May 7.

Commission on Elections (Comelec)-Sipalay registrar Jesusa Paler, said the truck carrying the VCMs was bound for Sipalay City and Hinoba-an town at the time of accident.

The Comelec officer added that prior to the incident, the town experienced rain showers causing the roads to become slippery and this could have been the reason for the crash.

Another truck was immediately sent by the Comelec, and the VCMs were transferred to the new vehicle.

Paler explained that even though they did not see any noticeable damage to the VCMs when viewed from the outside and that they will be able to determine if they are damaged once the final testing and sealing takes place prior to election day.

The Comelec officer has also assured that if the VCMs are damaged, they are already prepared with a contingency plan to allow voting to go ahead as planned.
