AN ALLEGED mentally unstable man who was running amok was injured when a barangay captain shot him in Isabela town, Negros Occidental at about 9 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2022.

Village chief Joseph Partidas said that Ramil Cardona, 38 of Zone 3 in the town’s Barangay Tinongan sustained gunshot wounds on both feet and was treated at the Ignacio Lacson Arroyo Memorial District Hospital.

Investigation showed that a village councilman told punong barangay Eugenio Sambrona, 58, to pacify Cardona who was running amuck outside their house.

Partidas said Cardona went inside their house and later came out with a bolo and tried to hack Sambrano.

He said that the barangay official had no choice but to shoot the victim using his licensed .45 caliber pistol to subdue him.

“Based on his medical records, Cardona is not mentally stable and also tried to hurt other people including his relatives,” Partidas added.

Sambrano was taken into police custody but was released yesterday, August 5 after he shouldered Cardona’s medical expenses.
