SUPERINTENDENT Roberto Rabo will temporarily head the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City following the relief of its top official and 12 jail guards for the alleged unauthorized private hospitalization of some high-profile inmates.

Rabo, who previously supervised the maximum security compound, shall perform the duties and responsibilities of officer-in-charge until further orders from Secretary Leila de Lima, according to Department of Justice Order 387 issued on Friday.

Specifically, the DOJ is looking into the case of convicted drug lord Ricardo Camata, who stayed last weekend at the Metropolitan Hospital in Manila for supposed lung ailment without prior approval from de Lima.

The department also found out that for two consecutive nights, starlet Krista Miller and television dancers were taken to Camata's room, in violation of existing rule that only relatives should be accorded visitation rights.

"One of them stayed up until the wee hours of the morning. What's the reason, we do not know, we can only speculate. Krista Miller stayed there for more than one hour," said Justice Undersecretary Francisco Baraan, who handles the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

Baraan scored the jail guards' lame security, adding drugs and firearms may be sneaked in since the visitors were not frisked and their bags not inspected.

But Miller said she only went to Camara's room to sell condominium units. (Sunnex)
