Royal wedding: Mexican hunger striker turned back

Sunnexdesk

MEXICO CITY — British authorities have turned away a Mexican teenager who spent 16 days without eating while pleading for an invite to the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

A lobbyist in Mexico City who paid for a plane ticket for 19-year-old Estibalis Chavez said Monday that the teen emailed him that officials sent her back to Spain.

Lobbyist Octavio Fitch Lazo says British officials told Chavez she didn't have enough money or a safe place to stay in London. But Chavez says she was told she could enter England if she finds someone to pick her up at the airport.

Chavez flew out of Mexico City on Thursday, hoping that she can at least watch some of the royal festivities from outside Westminster Abbey. (AP)
