Villanueva: FAAB Autism Consciousness Week

Brenda Lee Villanueva

JOIN us, as the Fashion Arts Autism Benefits (FAAB) celebrates the Autism Consciousness Week, every 3rd week of January (per Proclamation No. 171, signed on January 04, 1996 by then President Fidel Ramos). The opening exhibit was held January 21 on display till January 31 at SM City Baguio Lower Basement.

“The FAAB program utilizes visual arts to provide therapy, a venue for the improvement of socialization and coping skills, as well as life skills training for persons under the spectrum to become self-sufficient and become inspirations to others.” At the moment, there are nine children in the spectrum who remain enrolled in the program and whose skills in drawing / painting is continuously being honed by volunteer artist Ged Alangui, with the help of SPED teachers, parents and family members of the children.

Early on this year, some of these kids will be travelling to the US to represent the group in the World Autism Awareness Day Celebrations at the United Nations in New York and San Francisco. Bringing our rich Cordilleran culture in their travel and through their arts, these brilliant young ones will truly inspire. It is simply amazing - the interplay of these kids, wonderful and passionate people among them Linda Borromeo (Founder, Autism Hearts Foundation), Lisa Sobrepeña (Board of Director AHF), Bob Sobrepeña (CJHDevCo), Anthony Legarda (Fashion Designer/Adviser), mentors, parents, sponsors, and arts itself in its role to continuously give impact and color one’s life! Thanks to you, it is indeed a beautiful world!
