Almost P1-M ‘shabu’ seized in Baguio, Ifugao

SOME P918,000 worth of “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) were confiscated by anti–narcotics agent in Baguio City and Ifugao Province during a simultaneous operation Wednesday, March 11.

Two high-value drug personalities were arrested by joint personnel from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)–Baguio, National Bureau of Investigation – Cordillera (NBI–CAR) and Baguio City Police Office Wednesday evening.

Acting on a search warrant, authorities nabbed Alvin Lachica and her female cohort inside a building along Bonifacio St., Baguio City for possessing 55 grams of suspected shabu worth P374,000, several drug paraphernalia, cal. 22 and 32 pistols, and ammunitions.

Gil Caesar Castro, PDEA–Cordillera deputy director, said the suspects are alleged members of a drug syndicate operating in northern Luzon.

“We have been conducting continuous surveillance aside from the tip by informants. We will conduct further investigation on those who protect operation of illegal drugs in the city,” said Castro.

The PDEA official added the area inside the building where the two were busted is allegedly being used as a drug den.

Castro added the suspects, together with some of their cohorts who were able to elude arrest is bringing in at least 200 grams to two kilos of shabu in the city per shipment.

In Ifugao, PDEA agents together with Lagawe Municipal Police Station (MPS) also seized P544,000 worth of shabu from Sameh Ruiz Thawadi Jr., a resident of San Agustin, Isabela during a drug bust at Poblacion North, Lagawe also on March 11.
