THE PINES City is proud of Baguio boy and international filmmaker Kidlat Tahimik.

In a resolution, the entire local council resolved to commend Eric de Guia, better known as Kidlat Tahimik, for being the recipient of the Prince Claus Fund for his exemplary achievements in visual arts and film.

The council also noted Kidlat Tahimik, fondly called “Tatay” within the artist community, grew up in Baguio City. He teaches and mentors young talents by way of workshops and community projects.

The Prince Claus Fund, established in 1996, has presented the International Prince Claus Awards to honor individuals and organizations reflecting contemporary and progressive approaches to the themes of culture and development.

Kidlat’s work was deemed to have a positive effect on a wider cultural and social field. For the Prince Claus Fund, culture encompasses all kinds of artistic and intellectual disciplines, science, media and education.

Formal awarding has been set for December 6 with His Royal Highness Prince Constantijn set to present the awards to the Laureates in a ceremony at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam in the presence of the members of the Royal Family and an international audience.

Kidlat was chosen among 213 candidates and was recognized for his exemplary achievements in visual arts and film.

In order to inspire young talents, spark positive cultural competition and to keep the City’s momentum for its artistic accomplishments, among others, it is incumbent upon the City Government of Baguio to give credit and encouragement where it is due.

The commendation was proposed by Councilor Leandro Yangot and concurred by the entire body.
