CRITICAL constructions in the Baguio City will continue before the onset of the rainy season.

City administrator Boni dela Peña underscored there is a need to resume 12 critical major construction projects especially those with perilous excavations that lack slope protection and need to be done before the rainy season so as not to endanger the public.

“These are private construction projects that have to stabilize before the rains come, the contractors assured they can finish the job as early as seven days,” said Peña.

Dela Peña added a meeting with contractors showed all are capable to resume work with strict adherence to medical guidelines for workers on site.

The city administrator said all workers must be from the city and nearby Benguet with no workforce coming from the lowlands.

There will be bunkhouses on site with sanitation stations and disinfecting tent at hand to assure the health of all workers.

Dela Peña said the city needs 5,000 cubic meters of cement to stabilize the slopes of critical construction in the city.

However, there is a 3,200 cuber meter shortfall which he hopes will be filled by orders from two main suppliers who assured that once their workforce is allowed to resume work, Baguio's need for cement will be given.
