BENGUET councilors are seeking a day for migrant workers in the annual celebration of Adivay.

During Monday’s regular session, the proposed resolution requesting the steering committee of Adivay Festival to adopt an activity for all migrant workers and their families as part of the annual celebration of Benguet Foundation Day through Adivay was passed on second reading.

“There is a clamor that the migrant workers and their families be given a day during the month-long celebration for them to have an opportunity to meet together and share their experience,” stated the proposed measure introduced by Board Members Johnny Waguis, Roberto Canuto and Ruben Paoad.

Institutionalized events in celebration of the Adivay comprised of parade, farmers event, skilled workers event, search for Mr. and Ms. Benguet, music festival, environmental events, sports competition, mass wedding, agri-tourism events, and children’s event.

Adivay was made part of the province’s foundation day celebration through Ordinance 99-58 passed in 1999. It is celebrated every November.

Adivay, an Ibaloi term that means “coming together,” is considered a gathering of the 13 municipalities of Benguet.
