SEVERAL towns in Mountain Province have passed resolutions denouncing the terrorist actions of communist rebels and other armed groups.

Resolutions from Barlig and Besao were passed on April 15, denouncing the presence of Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (NPA) and other armed groups in the province.

"It is sad to imagine those young policemen who have the enthusiasm to serve in the government are being targeted without a cause," the Barlig resolution read.

Earlier this April, a firefight occurred between the Regional Mobile Force of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Cordillera and NPA rebels in Bauko and Tadian. The incident resulted in the death of two police officers and wounding of 10 others.

Aside from Barlig and Besao, the municipality of Sabangan also approved a resolution on April 11 strongly condemning the NPA atrocities.

Bauko, Sagada, Sadanga, Bontoc, Natonin, and Tadian earlier made the same move.

Police Brigadier General Israel Emphraim Dickson, PRO-Cordillera director, said the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police are always coordinating to defeat the lawless elements.

"The intention of the enemies are not applicable of what is happening today. Their ideology is obsolete. They have been fighting for 50 years, terroristic activities done to us," Dickson said.

He advised the people of Bauko not to go into remote areas.
