P29.2-M marijuana destroyed in Kalinga

ANOTHER P29.2 million worth alleged weed was destroyed during a two-day operation in Barangay Bugnay, Tinglayan, Kalinga.

Joint operatives from Tinglayan Municipal Police Station (MPS), Kalinga Drug Enforcement Unit, Kalinga Mobile Force Company, and Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15, in coordination with Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency- Cordillera Administrative Region (PDEA-CAR) were able to destroy, and burn on site close to 146,200 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants conducted August 7 to 8.

The plants were discovered in 17 plantation sites with an estimated land area of 19,510 square meters.

Chief Superintendent Rolando Nana, Police Regional Office–Cordillera regional director, lauded the accomplishment of the police, at the same time, directed all unit commanders to intensify intelligence build up against personalities involved in illegal drugs trade.

Nana added the success of the operation is attributed to the strengthened collaboration between the government forces and the community whose timely information led to the discovery of the plantation areas.

Meanwhile, five drug pushers were arrested while 20 sachets of suspected shabu were seized in a separate drug busts conducted in the Baguio City and Benguet Province.

Joint personnel of the Baguio City Police Office Drug Enforcement Unit (BCPO-DEU), Criminal Intelligence Unit and BCPO Police Station 3 arrested a female drug pusher in Leonard Wood Road, Brgy. St. Joseph in Baguio City in the afternoon of August 7.

The suspected pusher is from Compostela Sibulida, San Vicente, Davao Del Norte.

Confiscated from her possession were 14 sachets of white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu, one of which was sold to poseur-buyer worth P5,000.

In a separate operation of the Drug Enforcement Unit of La Trinidad Municipal Police Station and Benguet PPO, Benguet Provincial Intelligence Branch, Regional Intelligence Division, Regional Intelligence Unit 14, and Tublay Municipal Police Station, in coordination with PDEA-CAR arrested Begee Langaoan Lugangis, 32, a resident of Bahong, La Trinidad, Benguet.

Lugangis nabbed at Betag, La Trinidad, Benguet and seized from his possession were one sachet containing suspected shabu worth P1, 000 sold to the poseur-buyer and one cellphone.

In the evening of August 8, three more drug pushers were arrested in a drug bust at Purok 7, Lamog Street, Victoria Village, Baguio City.

The arrested pushers were identified as Renato Lee Lazaro, 52, taxi driver, presently renting at Victoria Village; Rolando Cornejo Manaois, 49, mechanic and a resident of Tacay Road, Quezon Hill; and a 32 year old lady overseas worker from Ajuy, Ilo-ilo City.

Five sachets of suspected shabu and assorted drug paraphernalia were seized during the operation conducted by the BCPO-DEU, Criminal Intelligence Unit, and BCPO Police Station 1.
