ANTI-NARCOTICS agents destroyed more than P59 million worth of fully grown marijuana plants in Kalinga during a two-day eradication drive.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) led the two-day eradication with the Police Regional Office-Cordillera. They uprooted and destroyed nearly 300,000 fully grown marijuana plants in nine plantation sites in Barangays Buscalan and Loccong, Tingalyan.

On June 23, 2020, the government troops discovered and destroyed close to 68,650 fully grown marijuana plants worth P13.7 million planted in six different plantation sites with a land area of approximately 5,550 square meters at Barangay Buscalan.

Authorities discovered and destroyed more some 226,500 fully grown marijuana plants worth over P45.3 million planted in three plantation sites with a land area of approximately 15,300 square meters in Barangay Loccong on June 24.

PDEA-Cordillera, in a report, said no drug cultivator was arrested during the eradication operations while most of the uprooted marijuana plants were destroyed on site.

PDEA added the discovery of the marijuana plantations sites is a product of enhanced intelligence gathering and prevented a huge volume of the illegal hemp from being sold to the communities by unscrupulous illegal drug dealers.
