A STUDY to place specific loading and unloading area along the Benguet capital town was raised during a meeting on Tuesday, August 6.

Major Roldan Cabatan, La Trinidad Municipal Police Station acting chief of police, cited Kilometer 4 as an example where jeepneys park on the side and call for passengers, adding if jeepneys could all be placed in designated loading areas, there would be smooth flow of traffic.

The police major also cited 15 traffic concern areas in the valley where 342 cases of vehicular crash resulting to damage to properties and 129 cases resulting to physical injuries.

The traffic problem in the valley was also attributed to number of factors, including obstruction of the streets, alleys, sidewalks, and parks used by individuals for commercial purposes causing inconvenience to motorists.

Under the anti-obstruction ordinance of the town, it prohibits person and business establishments to install permanent or temporary obstructions on highways, sidewalks and streets.

From July 30 to 2, 102 were apprehended violating the anti–obstruction law.

Meanwhile, Municipal tourism officer Valred Olsim said the problem of town’s tourist attractions involve access roads. With the narrow and steep roads, he said tourist spots on those areas cannot be promoted.

Municipal engineer Benedict Pineda said it is possible to conduct road widening and have funds intended for road widening, however, the problem entails the road right of way.

Pineda asked if the community is willing to donate the portion of their property for road widening.

“Are you willing to sell, give the land?” he asked.
