VINCY Vacalares, the Miss Universe Philippines candidate representing Cagayan de Oro City, said she had tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

In her Instagram post, Vacalares said the result of her Covid-19 test came out positive on October 14.

"This means that I will not be able to continue with my journey to the Miss Universe Philippines crown this year," Vacalares said in her social media post.

"My team and I did all our best to strictly follow all the health and safety protocols, but still the virus hit me. To those I had in close contact with, please inform the City Health Officers so they can also check on your state. I pray that you are safe from the virus," she added.

Vacalares is currently confined in a hospital in Manila and reassured that she is "in good hands."

"I sincerely apologize for what happened. Please be always on the lookout for your health and safety," Vacalares said.

The beauty queen also expressed her gratitude to the Miss Universe Philippines team, her family, friends, colleagues, students and supporters.

"Once again, I am deeply sorry for whatever I have caused you. Please don’t forget to include me in your prayers," Vacalares said.

In September, Maria Isabela Galeria, the candidate of Sorsogon for the Miss Universe Philippines, had also declared her withdrawal from the pageant after she tested positive for Covid-19.

Miss Universe Philippines 2020 coronation night is on October 25.
