SEVEN quarantine checkpoints were set up in Cagayan de Oro City's entry points to block the delivery of pork and pork processed products from areas affected by African Swine Fever (ASF).

"We established checkpoints in seven entry points from our neighboring province like Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental," City Veterinarian Lucien Anthony Acac said.

The seven entry points are in Barangay Bugo, Upper Puerto, boundary of Barangay Balubal and Manolo Fortich in the eastern part; and in Barangay Mambuaya, Barangay Indahag, Barangay San Simon and Barangay Lumbia in the western part of the city.

Acac also called for the cooperation of the residents of Cagayan de Oro City and vigilance in monitoring and reporting the presence and delivery of pork meat and pork processed products that have not been vetted by the animal quarantine checkpoints.

The intensified monitoring, according to Acac, was due to the information they received from the Davao City Hall's agriculture committee that three of the city's barangays were hit by the ASF virus.

Last week, the Anti-ASF Task Force confiscated and burned more than 600 kilos of pork in a checkpoint in Upper Puerto, Cagayan de Oro City.

The kilos of pork meat were in a meat van, together with several marinated milk fish (bangus), which came from a company in Davao City.
