Fight against dengue, measles pushed in Oro

PJ Orias

CAGAYAN de Oro City League of the Barangays president Councilor Alam Lim is calling for united effort in the fight against dengue and measles.

Lim, chairperson of the committee on barangay affairs, said he plans to mobilize the barangays to prevent a possible measles outbreak in the city and stop the increasing number of measles cases.

He said he is coordinating with the City Health Office (CHO) and the Department of Health (DOH) to come up with unified strategy and action plan to address the pressing public health concerns, including adopting the DOH's strategy against dengue called “Aksyon Barangay Kontra Dengue” (Abakada).

A similar approach to the measles outbreak may be adopted, he added.

"Let us apply it here in Cagayan de Oro," Lim said.

Lim also lauded the CHO for intensified vaccination campaign with the onset of the measles outbreak.

"As Liga nga Barangay president and city councilor, I will make sure that whatever resources needed to address dengue and measles will be available," he said.

CHO has recorded a total of 78 cases of dengue and measles with five deaths in different barangays.
