A 64-YEAR-OLD man and his 11-year-old grandchild died and two other family members were hurt after a fire razed their house in Calaanan, Canitoan, Cagayan de Oro City, Saturday dawn, July 13, 2019.

Victims Vomidiano Ramoga and his grandchild Chester were reportedly trapped inside the house and might have died of suffocation when the fire broke out around 3:55 a.m.

Two other family members, who were wounded, immediately received treatment.

"Wala sila totally nasunog sa aso gyud to. Naa sila sa sulod na trap dili sila kagawas," City Fire Marshall Superintendent Alan Cabot said.

Cabot said firefighters were able to contain the fire and did not spread to the neighboring houses.

The fire was put out around 4:35 a.m. The damaged was estimated at P200, 000.

The victim's son said the LPG-refilled butane canister may have fell to the mosquito coil and caused the fire.

"Bawal ang pagbaligya og refilled butane kay ang allowed is only 3.8 liters for domestic use not for commercial use," Cabot said.

Fire investigators are still investigating the exact cause of the fire.
