Moreno: No politics in healthcare

THE Cagayan de Oro City Government held it’s first-ever Barangay Council Health Summit on Tuesday, August 14, to highlight health issues in each of the 80 barangays in the city.

The activity was participated by barangay health workers and village officials to help guide them craft their health programs that align what the barangay constituents need, City Health Officer Dr. Fe Bongcas said.

Mayor Oscar Moreno in his speech, told over a thousand barangay workers that they are welcome to ask for help from city officials, regardless of their political affiliation.

"This summit answers the question, how do we harness our services to the people, a service that is centered not on politics, but a true service. We gathered you to help demonstrate the best practices in the barangays and have it applied in your area," he said.

Moreno said when he leaves the government service, he would like to leave the city that has teamwork.

He vowed that all barangays shall receive equal treatment in terms of the delivery of services.

"The continuity of government services should not be affected everytime the administration changes. If we succeed in normalizing the operations of our barangay health workers the soonest time possible, the better it is for everyone. What I would like to leave behind is a philosophy that is a city that works together with the barangay level, it really is something that I longed for, teamwork," he said.

Councilor Alam Lim for his part maintained that he would be a bridge for the opposition barangays and Moreno's administration to work together.

"So far, we have 100 percent attendance of the barangay officials here and this is a good start for us to build relationships and work together," he said.
