News on Oro mayor’s disqualification fake

PJ Orias

COMMISSION on Elections (Comelec) commissioner Luie Tito Guia said they will take actions against the people behind the fake resolution supposedly disqualifying Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno from the mayoralty race.

In a text message, Guia said the document is “fake news and fake resolution”.

Asked if they will take action against this fake resolution, Guia said they are “moving towards that”.

On Friday night, May 10, the said Comelec resolution was forwarded by Nicole Managbanag, the Padayon Pilipino-Centrist Democratic Party communications director, to reporters.

The resolution said it granted William Guialani’s instant petition to cancel Mayor Moreno’s certificate of candidacy.

Lawyer Dale Mordeno, Moreno’s legal counsel, said they have noted few unusual things in the supposed resolution.

First, the size of the paper was short, when a legal bondpaper is supposed to be long.

“There is a specific kind of legal bondpaper used in resolutions,” Mordeno said.

The document is also suspicious because there was no Comelec seal. It is also suspicious that the resolution was promulgated on May 1, which is a holiday, he said.

The said resolution was also not posted in the website.

“I doubt if it’s really authentic or not. Until we receive an official copy from Comelec, we will reserve our comment in matters of substance,” Mordeno said.
