FARMERS in Cagayan de Oro will receive 100 goats and 100 heads of cattle this year as part of the livestock assistance of the National Dairy Authority (NDA).

According to district representative Deputy Speaker Rufus Rodriguez, the NDA Administrator Marilyn Mabale has committed to deliver 100 goats by the end of May and 100 heads of cattle by the last quarter of 2021.

The beneficiaries of the 100 goats are the farmers in Barangays Indahag, Cugman, FS Catanico, and Balubal, Cagayan de Oro City.

Rodriguez said these farmers have already undergone the orientation and planted grass in their areas for the goats.

The dairy goat breed for the PL480 program will be la mancha, saanen, anglo nubian, and alpine at P150,000 per head.

An orientation for the cattle dispersal for the farmers in the second district of Cagayan de Oro is set to be conducted in May and June by the NDA.

The 100 heads of cattle are due to be delivered in November and December this year.

Rodriguez expressed his gratitude to NDA and hoped that the Kagay-anon farmers will take care of the animals for propagation, farm work, and milking purposes.

"Our farmers could improve their lives if they care for and use these animals properly. They could harvest their milk for food or sale, or sell their offspring," Rodriguez said.

He also encouraged the farmers to form a cooperative among themselves and start dairy-related projects.
