THE municipality of Sugbongcogon won this year's Food Product Presentation Contest with their locally produced camote cake in line with the provincial-wide celebration of the Tourism Week.

Sugbongcogon's camote cake, according to Daisy Operiano Gaabucayan, the municipality's budget officer, is made of fresh organic ingredients from Barangay Kaulayanan.

Instead of a box, the cake is placed inside a jar.

"We are promoting kasi yung 3Rs: Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle. Kaya we put it in a jar so that you can also use the jar for any other purposes," Gaabucayan said.

"Over yung aming trust with the product because it is really delicious and nutritious at the same time," she added.

Gaabucayan received a cash prize worth P10,000 and a plaque.

She was followed by first runner-up Gretchner Jeanne Suico of Manticao town and second runner-up Grethel Joy Dela Rosa of Salay. They received plaques and cash prizes of P8,000 and P6,000, respectively.

Consolation prizes of P2,000 cash and certificates were also given to other participating municipalities.

The Food Product Presentation Contest of the Tourism Week is to showcase the several different pasalubong treats of each municipalities and cities in Misamis Oriental.

"This competition is one of the effective ways for us to discover daghan diay lami nga produkto, food products, sa Misamis Oriental which we can offer to the tourists and which will serve as pasalubong when tourists go back to their respective places of origin," Provincial Tourism Department head Jeffrey Saclot said.

Each municipality or city that participated in the competition was required to send their municipal staff or in lieu thereof, any local government employee to the competition to promote their top native food that represents well their respective town or city.

The participants were given one minute and 30 seconds to present their native snack to the judges.

The food product was judged based on the packaging and presentation.
