CAGAYAN de Oro City Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin Uy said Monday, April 29, that age and health may have been among the factors why respondents of the university-funded survey picked him for the vice mayoral post.

Uy topped the vice mayoral race, according to the survey conducted by Xavier University's Kinaadman: University Research Office (KURO) last April 4-11.

He got 55 percent voter preference followed by his rival, former city mayor Vicente Emano, with 23.6 percent.

Uy said age and health are important for a public servant to better perform his duties and functions.

"Factor ang age og panglawas kay kung medyo edaran na kailangan man nimo atimanon ang imong panglawas so maapektuhan sad imong pagserbisyo," Uy said.

(Age and health are factors here, because if you are already ageing, you need to take care of your health and body, and it can affect you service to the public.)

The 35-year-old reelectionist vice mayor said he is confident that the people have seen how he discharged his functions as top official of the city's legislative branch.

Uy also compared himself with the 75-year-old opponent in terms of performance and attendance in regular sessions during the latter's stint as vice mayor in 2007.

Uy said the survey result has motivated him to work harder and serve the people better.

However, Uy said that at the end of the day, it would always be the people who decide and pick who they think deserve to lead the city council.
