MISAMIS Oriental pride Erwin Mancao bagged a pair of gold and silver medals in the 2018 Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (Patafa) National Open held last May 31 in Isabela province.

It was a quick follow up for the 5-foot-7 tall Mancao, a student of Villanueva National High School, who also won golds in the recent Palarong Pambansa in Vigan City and Philippine National Games (PNG) in Cebu City.

This time, the long-legged runner finished with a gold in his favorite event--the men’s 5,000 meter run.

Now enjoying the support of the City Government of Cagayan de Oro, Mancao clocked 16.04 minutes and beat his own time in Vigan Palaro Pambansa at 16 minutes and one second.

Mancao’s PNG finish was not his best as he only clocked 16 minutes, 31 seconds and 12 milliseconds.

Mancao also salvaged a silver after breasting the tape at 4.06 minutes in the men’s 1,500 meter run.

Team CdeO’s Shienne Sanchez won a silver in the women’s shot put at 10.2 meters.

Sanchez was also a gold winner for Team CdeO in the PNG when she finished first in the shot put junior girls event.

“We are happy for Mancao and Sanchez and we are proud of supporting them,” said City Sports coordinator Jaymar Rivera.
