Neda 7: Shipping sector boosts operations in Q3

FOLLOWING the lifting of mobility restrictions in the third quarter of this year, the shipping industry has continued to intensify operations, according to the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) 7.

In the third quarter of 2021, an even higher number of shipcalls and cargo throughput traffic was recorded in Central Visayas compared to the previous quarter and the same period of 2020.

Shipcalls grew 63.5 percent or 34,481 in the third quarter this year from 29,843 shipcalls in the second quarter and 21,090 shipcalls in the third quarter of 2020.

Container traffic, on the other hand, grew by 5.8 percent in the third quarter to 266,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) from 250,000 TEU in the second quarter and 252,000 TEU in the third quarter of 2020.
