Waiting game: ‘Technical difficulty’ delays 3D experience for ‘Avengers: Endgame’ fans in Cebu

FANS raring to catch the highly anticipated Marvel blockbuster “Avengers: Endgame” at the only IMAX theater in Metro Cebu were disappointed to find out that the movie was only being shown in 2D format instead.

Popular for its immersive cinema experience, the IMAX projection system uses two 2K projectors that can present either 2D or 3D content. The latter being the premium option.

On the day of the film’s local release date, Wednesday, April 24, several movie-goers who bought IMAX tickets in advance, some even months before, turned to social media to air their disappointment upon learning that the 3D option wasn’t available due to “technical difficulty.”

“IMAX Cebu and Clark will show ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in 2D format. Rest assured that we are doing our best to fix the technical concern so we can play the movie in 3D soon. Our sincerest apologies for this. Thank you,” stated the official advisory from the IMAX head office based in Metro Manila.

SM Cinema assures that ticketholders can get a refund or can choose to rebook to another date when the IMAX technical issue is resolved. LQIII
