HOW communication has technologically advanced is wonderful. I noticed it is that kind of technology that is rapidly developing. No matter how far two people are, they can easily video call and feel like they are talking face to face. It makes me realize how people value interactions with others. One positive impact of this advancement is that we are able to see what others are thinking and we get to know more about that certain person through their posts. These posts also reflect the values and beliefs that person has and allows them to confidently show a part of their personality.

People communicate by either writing or speaking--each having its own benefit. With writing, we can plan out what we want to say and edit before we share it. Yet, it is harder to decipher the tone in writings. Thus, people emphasize it with the extensive use of punctuation marks, capital letters, or emoticons. With speaking, we can instantly identify the emotions felt by the speaker by the tone of their voice. But then, there are times where people might say one thing but mean another. Things get lost in translation.

Communication does not stop at voicing out opinions and learnings. The receiver must understand what is being said by clarifying the details to avoid misunderstanding and misconception. Through experience, I have learned that some conflicts arise because both parties are thinking of what to say rather than understand what the other is saying. People shift topics easily because they try to link different things with the same topic. Listening and comprehending what others say is just as important as communicating what you’re trying to say.
