ELEVEN election-related incidents were recorded by the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 in Central Visayas but the region’s top police official said the polls were peaceful.

“It will now be up to the provincial directors who are now consolidating all augmentation forces and as soon as their areas are cleared, our forces will be sent back to their units,” said PRO 7 Director Chief Supt. Robert Quenery said.

Four incidents involved violations of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) liquor ban, three involved allegations of vote-buying, two were for alarm and scandal and one was for a violation of the Fair Elections Act.

A sea mishap was also reported. Some voters and the police were on their way to an island in Bien Unido, Bohol when they had an accident.

The PRO 7 also considered the ambush last Sunday morning against Daanbantayan Mayor Vicente Loot as election-related case. Loot survived, but four others suffered injuries during the shooting. Quenery said that the special investigation task group will meet today in a command conference to consolidate their findings.

In Lapu-Lapu City, officials in the election monitoring action center in the police headquarters also said the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections were peaceful because of security preparations.

Supt. Rex Binarao Lomente, operations chief, said that although there were minor incidents reported, the situation was manageable.

Mayor Paz Radaza reminded candidates to take responsibility for taking down their campaign materials or else they will be issued citations. She urged candidates to help with the clean-up in all barangays and expressed hope that the city’s voters will unite, now that the elections are over. (JOB with Mary Louise Jandayan, CNU Intern)
