Lapu-Lapu City has recorded 86 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, July 3, 2020.
Lapu-Lapu Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan announced on his Facebook page that 12 out of the 86 were frontliners who are members of the Philippine National Police.
He said because of the rising rate of new cases in the city, he is inclined to have the council pass a measure that allows “citizen’s arrest” for individuals caught without wearing a facemask—putting others, not just themselves, at risk.
Under this proposal, violators will be arrested and fined once evidence of the violation is presented. The first violation will incur a penalty of P1000 where P500 will go to the city and P500 will go to the concerned citizen who presented the evidence of the violation. If another violation is made, the penalty will go up to P2000.
Lapu-Lapu City now has 766 total cases, with 153 recoveries and 20 deaths. (TLN)
