3 hurt after being hit by power line ‘snapped by lightning’

THREE persons riding on motorcycles were injured after being hit by a power line, which reportedly snapped after being struck by lightning.

The incident took place around 2 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2023, Sitio Laray, Barangay Cansaga, Consolacion town, northern Cebu.

The victims were identified Nilo Jusol, 52, his wife Aida, 44, residents of the said place, and Vincent Madaiton, 17.

They were all sent to the hospital for treatment after suffering burns.

The Jusol couple and Madaiton were riding on separate motorcycles.

The pair was traveling along the barangay road and was about to enter the national highway when the power line allegedly snapped after being struck by lightning and moved in their direction, according to Fire Officer 2 Jaypee Ango of the Consolacion Fire Station.

The wire also struck Madaiton, who was near them.

The couple's P50,000 motorcycle was totally burned. (DVG, TPT)
