AFTER a week of isolation, the 12 measles-infected inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) have already returned to their dorms.

CPDRC warden Reynaldo Valmoria said the inmates started returning to their dorms last Tuesday, January 15, as per the recommendation of their resident physician.

“Nakabalik na sila and were happy to say nga wala pud nisaka ang kaso sa tipdas diri sa CPDRC sa mga milabay nga adlaw. Back to normal na ta diri ug atong gi-monitor ang atong mga nasakit na inmates to make sure nga okay na gyud sila,” he told SunStar Cebu.

Although the Department of Health-Central Visayas has yet to release the laboratory results of the inmates' swab and blood samples, Valmoria reiterated that they are suspecting that the source was a guest of the facility during its Christmas party last year.

The 12 inmates started to experience fever, cough, inflamed eyes and other symptoms after a Christmas Family Day party on December 25, 2018.

Measles is a contagious infectious disease with symptoms that include fever, cough, runny nose and inflamed eyes.

To prevent the same incident from happening again, Valmoria said they are tightening measures for visitors of the facility.

“If there are visitors that are not feeling well or are showing symptoms of flu or any contagious disease, we will immediately send them to our clinic and advise them to postpone their visit until they get well,” he said.

CPDRC has a population of 3,482 inmates, of whom 263 are women. The jail facility was built for a capacity of 1,600.
