Bike rider dies after collision with truck in Toledo

A 30-YEAR-OLD motorcycle driver was killed after colliding with a dump truck along national highway, Barangay Poog, Toledo City on Friday morning, July 2, 2022.

Staff Sergeant Ryan De Gracia of Toledo Traffic Enforcement Unit identified the victim as Ariel Sinangoti, a native of Barangay Anopog, Pinamungajan town.

De Gracia said that at 7:17 a.m of July 2, Sinangoti was traveling toward Barangay DAS Lutopan, Toledo City and was ascending in a curved portion of the road while overtaking another motorcycle when he accidentally bumped into the front left portion of the dump truck from the opposite direction.

De Gracia identified the dump truck driver as Jerame Piscante Canlubo, 40, of Barangay Poog.

Personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) rescued Sinangoti and brought him to the Toledo City Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physician.

De Gracia said that Canlubo, along with the dump truck, is now temporarily placed under the custody of Toledo City Police Station.

Lieutenant Colonel Dennis de Guzman, chief of Toledo City Police Station, told SunStar Cebu that the accident was a result of reckless driving.

"Mabilis ang takbo ng motorcycle, nag-overtake ng dalawang motor, sumablay sa kaliwang harapan sa bahagi ng sasakyan ng (The motorcycle driver was very fast, he overtook two motorcycles, then hit the left portion of) Howo dump truck," De Guzman said.

De Guzman said that Canlubo settled the case amicably with the family of the victim as he promised to shoulder the burial expenses and give cash assistance. (GDC, TPT)
