EVEN in their tender years, the children in Naga City, Cebu are being prepared to be conscious of the right things to do in times of emergencies, including disasters, in a creative way through a board game.

The board game is part of Barangay Alerto 24, a holistic and comprehensive program on preparedness that the Apo Land and Quarry Corp. (ALQC) is rolling out in its host city with the support of Cemex Philippines Foundation.

ALQC commissioned the Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation, which allowed the use of its board game that heightens the awareness among children on disasters and emergency preparedness.

Some 250 students of Cepoc Central Elementary School in Barangay Tinaan took part in the soft launch on Tuesday, March 19. They were from three sections in Grade 5 and two in Grade 4.

The participants enjoyed the game while learning basic concepts in different emergency situations and the corresponding techniques to avoid disasters.

ALQC will introduce the board game to other public schools in Naga City upon the full roll-out of the project. (S)
