Carcar unveils street named after Fr. ‘Paking’ Silva

THE Carcar City Government unveiled Padre Paking Street, which is named after the late Rev. Fr. Francisco "Paking" Garces Silva, on Monday, December 12, 2022, the first death anniversary of the priest who had served as general manager of Cebu Electric Cooperative (Cebeco).

The street-naming was a way of honoring the Carcar's son for his many contributions for the betterment of his fellow Cebuanos and Filipinos, among which was his advocacy for the rural electrification program of the Philippines, the local government said in its press statement.

During its 22nd regular session last November 29, the Carcar City Council unanimously approved Resolution 314, which seeks to name a street after Silva and describes the late priest as the "most valuable native" of the city.

The street signage was installed in the corner of N. Bacalso Street and the new bypass road that leads toward the City Hall of Carcar.

The site is located in the immediate vicinity of the New Carcar City Hall.

Silva died in his sleep on December 12, 2021. He was 86 years old.

Silva was born in Carcar on April 2, 1935. He was ordained as a priest in 1960.

He had served as the parish priest of the town of Moalboal in southwestern Cebu before becoming the general manager of Cebeco.

The priest also served as the administrator of the National Electrification Administration. Then he also became the presidential adviser for Rural Electrification during the term of then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
